Anti-Bullying Week works best when it moves beyond a single event and gives pupils something they can actually use.
That was exactly the brief when we visited Putney High School this term, and it’s a great example of what a whole-school Anti-Bullying visit from OpenView Education looks like in practice, with different year groups taking part in the format that suits them best.

An Interactive Performance for Key Stage 1
For our youngest pupils, the day began with an interactive performance brought to life through puppetry and performance. Rather than talking at pupils about bullying, our performer drew them into the story, using humour and character to explore how everyone in a school community has the power to help stop bullying from happening. It’s an approach that makes a serious message easy for young children to understand and enjoy.
Workshops for Key Stage 2 that provide Practical Skills
Across the rest of the school, our facilitator worked with individual classes in smaller, more focused workshops. Here, pupils explored a clear, age-appropriate definition of what bullying actually is, an important starting point, since pupils can only challenge behaviour they can recognise and name.
From there, pupils used role play to practise specific strategies for responding to bullying and conflict. Rather than being told what to do, they worked through realistic scenarios themselves, coming up with their own solutions and testing them out with their classmates.
The most valuable part of the workshops for me was the drama and the role play. They seemed to really enjoy coming up with the solutions to the scenarios. To other teachers who are thinking of booking a workshop with OpenView Education, I would say just do it, it’s well worth it, the girls learnt so much today.

By the end of the day, pupils at Putney High School left with a clear understanding of what bullying is and the confidence to respond to it, whether that means supporting a friend, speaking up, or knowing who to go to for help.
